Every hero needs a sidekick, and teachers are no exception. Moraine Park’s Instructional Assistant associate online degree program prepares individuals to work directly with students under the supervision of — and in support of — a licensed teacher. Graduates will learn the skills to assist children with math, science, reading and writing assignments; monitor student activities; grade papers; tutor individuals; coordinate one-on-one activities; facilitate small groups; develop classroom displays; help students with computers and other media; and assist with school events.
While instructional assistants may be hired to work with students from pre-kindergarten through high school, this program focuses on preparing graduates to work primarily in elementary and middle schools. The program meets Title 1 requirements and fulfills the requirements of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act for paraprofessionals.
